With both my other two kids I would dilate to about a 2-3 but be 75%effaced and would stay that way for another 2 weeks or so but in the hospital when they would check and say I was 100% thinned I would dilate fully in a matter of like an hour.I was 90% effaced and 1cm dilated at 36 weeks and my dd was born at 38 weeks. When I arrived at the hospital, two days later, I was 100% effaced and 5cm dilated. You can walk around for weeks fully effaced and slightly dilated.
