The inaugural year of the KU Alumni Band was 1974 when Robert E Foster brought alumni back to celebrate the retiremenet of former Director of Bands, Russell Wiley. An end of an era came in 2002 when Foster stepped down as Director of Bands, becoming Assistant Chair of the Department of Music and Dance. Dr.
