The Parenting Sense of Competence (PSOC) is widely used in parenting research and clinical interventions. Despite its popularity, there are a number of problems with the measure. This study identified and addressed shortcomings of the PSOC in a revision of the original instrument. The new 16-item PSOC-R was trialled in a sample of 3056 mothers.
