My local mechanic said to use 75W 140 synthetic. There is only one metal tag on the rear differential, top right side, not sure if its limited slip or not, the tag didn't say.Maybe the correct amount of fluid is not to the fill hole. it's hard to tell but the fluid is sitting around 3.3-3.5qts in that drain pan. everything i've ever read on diffs and t-cases is fill till it dribbles out. the linked thread claims the fluid isn't just a lubricant but also a heat sink under heavy towing loads.

Someone over there said this: "Just to let you all know, I called another local dealership today and spoke with their parts department. A TSB has in fact been sent out by Ford stating that the front axle 75w90 Gear Oil should be replaced with 75w140 when doing a fluid change. The TSB numbers are 04-24-20 and 05-12-06.
