Sep 13, 2008 · Hey R/T, not sure how you got the cap rotated, because the tabs on my 360 cap are are molded so that it is nearly impossible to put the cap on the distributor the wrong way and tighten it. I suppose someone could if they tried hard enough. Sounds like you have it figured out. Put the new rotor at position 2, and carefully press the distributor down into its hole. As the gears mesh, the rotor should turn to position 1. Loosely install the clamp, and rotate the entire distributor so that the marks at the base line up. Then, tighten it down. Double check all marks before continuing.The firing order for a 1978 318 and 360 is: 1843657 with the distributor rotating clockwise.
