To turn off RAB there are two different icons and for some reason people tend to press the icon than turns off the warning but not the icon that turns off the braking. Note also that your 2017 Forester manual states that the car's computers store event information if the automatic rear braking system is activated, so there will be a record in that ECU that it kicked in when you said it did and the specific radar sensor that reported an issue.

Full engine shutdown. Make sure you get paperwork every time you take the car in, make sure it has RAB issues listed, your issues and what they did ( or in most cases, what they refused to do). Your dealer should do a full recalibration as a minimum.
